Earth Perfume: Name Game

“Nothing makes the earth seem so spacious as to have friends at a distance;
they make the latitudes and longitudes.”
~ Henry David Thoreau

The newest solid in our stable of pure, botanical perfume needs a name. Inspired by my inspirational friend Nicole of Lillyella and her monthly Name Games, today we begin our first and very own Name Game.

The Earth Solid Botanical Perfume fragrance has a grounding, warm quality with chocolate gourmand notes. There are 19 essences total in the composition including: Patchouli, Vanilla, Labdanum, Benzoin, Vetiver, Saffron, Myrrh, Rose, Cepes (Mushroom), Cedar and Bergamot. Comprised primarily of base and middle notes the longitude evolution is a hum, like a giant OM. Besides the Gourmand fragrance category this perfume treads lightly the latitudes of Chypre, Leather and Incense.

Our planet Earth is a dynamic living organism which is continually evolving. This fragrance is also in the evolutionary phase. I am currently tinkering with it just a bit. Mainly I will be adding infused oils and a few more top notes. If you would like to add your suggestions as to what notes or themes you would like to experience in this perfume please let us know.

Perfume names are tricky because of trademark. Unlike a painting, a film or a book a "perfume" name can be owned. Thus, the ideal with naming a perfume is to find a name that no other perfumer or cosmetic company is utilizing.

This fragrance is currently available as a solid perfume mini and in the antique finished compact. The color vibration is a dusty, rose brown. (See picture) I may create it as a liquid or a body butter in the future, not sure yet.

How to participate:
Embark in this game by reading the blog entry here about the Earth perfume titled The Scent of the Earth, for further inspiration order a sample so that you can have an experience with the scent. If you have suggestions please leave a comment on this post with your name idea(s) and contact information. We will select the name we like best that also does not appear to be utilized by any other perfume(r). If the name you submitted is the one chosen for the fragrance, you win the Earth solid perfume compact! Maximum number of name entries per person is ten different names, entered all at once or sporadically during the competition. We will then conduct a poll with the top five names entered.

The first phase of this contest ends at 10pm PST on Thursday, April 30th with results being posted Friday, May 1st (May Day!). Feel free to e-mail me, roxanailuminatedperfume.com, if you have any questions.

Thank you to Nicole for inspiring this game!

I had a thought on an addition to the scent, since you asked for input. I'm not sure which specific scent you could use (way beyond my scope of knowledge) that would blend well, but something to represent water would really complete the thought... for me, anyway.

Hi Roxana!

The way you describe the creation of the scent as a spiritual encapsulation of Earth Day made me think of the name "Spenta Armaiti" as a possibility.

Spenta Armaiti is one of the seven Zoroastrian emanations of god that translates as "Progressive Serenity" while also connoting the act of growing or increasing in relation to goodness and benevolence.

While you emphasized the earthy aspects, the origin of the scent strikes me as very spiritual -- a yearning for "right mindedness" regarding the Earth -- so the growing and increasing can refer to both the Earth and our devotion to it.

Here's a link to a web page about Spenta Armaiti:

http://kr6z.u.cc/

A quote: "In later Zoroastrianism, Spenta Armaiti becomes the patron of the Earth, the fertile land and of sacred space . . . Spenta Armaiti is the embodiment of the virtues of service and loving-kindness."

Good luck!

Wende,
Thanks so much for dropping in and sharing your thought to add some water element to the fragrance. There are some essential oils, like myrrh for example, that is attributed with water yet also works well with the earth. I ws also considering Tonka and Benzoin, both are warm yet in the dry down can impart a subtle watery element.

Nathan,
What a treat to have you pop over here for a visit imparting so much inspiration with your comment. My goodness, I feel like you really "got" what this fragrance is about. Your contribution is fantastic, thank you so much!

I suggest Lilith , for obvious reasons . She also represents to me the lost and the hidden .
My first choice would have been Gaia , but someone on Facebook already suggested it .

Hi Roxana,
This fragrance "sounds" wonderful.

"Avani" is Hindi for earth & I just like the sound of the word.

Also, "Dima" a pet form of the Russian Dimitri for "loves the earth" or (along the same lines but with a bit more "punch"), "Dimitar" the Latin form of Demetrius.

I really like the "loves the earth" part for this fragrance.

Thank you for the name game...this is fun!

Many Hugs,
Christine

Hmm, earth and water, what about calling it 'terrain'?

Carol, I too like the name Lilith, thank you for reminding me.

Christine,
I like the sound of "Avani" and having it affiliated with Hindi brings in a nice spiritual component.

"Dima" is intersting...I like how different it is."Dimitar" sounds like the name of one of the Greek Gods, which I like as well.

Wow, you are all giving me some great names!

Felicia,
I adore Terrain, unfortunately one of my friends is using it for one of her colognes. Darn! It's really lovely.

Hi Roxana,

A few more in that vein: Tellus ( latin for 'earth'), Terre (french for 'earth'), Terra (latin for "the earth,) Terrestre (french for 'of the earth'), and Terreau (it means something like compost, but it sounds pretty....;))

hi, because of I am foreigner and English is not language familiar to my thinking ... I could imagine only very simple name for your earth perfume like:
"Overland" ot "Terrestrial scent". Or for example in Latin "Odor Terrae" (Scent of the Earts) Thanks.
