Olandar welcomes Roxana Villa

On the afternoon of Saturday, April 15th I will be presenting "The Flower of Life: A Mystical Approach to the Art of Botanical Perfumery" at Olander in Malibu. The Olandar Foundation for Emerging Renaissance (OFFER) is an organization created by actor/artist Leigh J. McCloskey. He began this endeavor with the seed of an "idea meant to awaken our deepest knowing and to stimulate the emerging waters of imaginative renaissance & rebirth."1

I had the opportunity to visit Olander many years ago when Eve was a child and Leigh had just started his gatherings. Fast forward to a few months ago when Greg mentioned being on their newsletter mailing and that the events that Olandar were putting on are reminiscent of what Alex and Alison Grey have been doing. Power couples in the visionary and healing tribe are on the rise, I see this as part of the integration of masculine and feminine, duality, that is currently taking place on the planet. Cathy and Florian are another excellent example of sol and luna, the alchemical marriage.

I'm absolutely delighted that now I have the honor of presenting "The Flower of Life: A Mystical Approach to the Art of Botanical Perfumery" a dissertation on the things I usually ramble on about relating to olfactory adventures and exploring the mythology, history and aromatic properties
of flowers, etc.

I'll be bringing along tinctures, hydrosols, lotions and potions to alter our consciousness with Greg who I have asked to put together a visual accompaniment to my words and scented treats.

To Bee Eau de Parfum!

Just in time for swarm season, To Bee as an Eau de Parfum is here! I've been working on this one since 2014, the main challenge was getting the ration of essences to alcohol in perfect balance. Since To Bee is such a rich fragrance, weaved with dark, heavy notes that the orchestration can get tricky—too much alcohol eliminates the deep, reverberating base but too little overpowers the more subtle, ephemeral voices. Added to this very dynamic equation there is the challenge of longevity for a true authentic plant perfume which has no isolates, animal or synthetic materials.

Luckily, Eau de Parfums—by their very nature of being atomized into the air, have a tendency toward good silage and tenacity. Take a look at the To Bee Lookbook we put together in 2013 here.

To Bee Eau de Parfum is available in the petite atomizer bottle and the larger, tall rectangular bottle. The Eau de Parfums will be doubling in price shortly as I get them ready for retail stores. I have not set a date yet, however, thought I'd pass that bit of information onto you now while To Bee is still in stock.

Bee-ing Green

When I contemplate the “green” note in a perfume, it is so much more than just the scent. At the core are the ingredients, how are they grown, obtained, processed and then brought to the market. Is the soul of the plant, the quintessence, still contained in the material that is being used? Or have those energetic fields been stripped out, starting with the seed?

The subtle frequencies of the soul imprint, the deva, spirit guardian or angel of the plant, still vibrant...even at ppb (parts per billion)? Many of us yearn for communion with that soul essence, the botanical matrix of the plant.

Thus on this St. Patricks Day, I'm cheering for authentic green, to the pagans who were so intimately aware of these subtle energies and to all the defenders of Gaia.

A is for April & Alchemy!

Since we have gotten an amazing community already signed up for the Alchemy happenings in April, I thought I'd post a few details all in one place, including a FAQ's.

We are not sure yet, 23 is the maximum my perfumery can accommodate. 

If we get more we may move it to another space.

3. Will you be sending us a list of things we need to bring?

"For the participants in the Alchemy & Aromatherapy 2 day class:

Participants are to bring 2-3 essential oils. This is for the last two exercises. 

Only a few drops (at most) will be used, they will be returned."

4. Any pre-requisites?

Just when you thought that perhaps you had enough yummy jasmine in our lives with the hydrosol, Cimbalom, Chiaroscuro and Fleurish, I bring you the 2017 edition of Blossom. Can you tell I love flowers, particularly jasmine?

Nurture with Nature

This Tuesday evening, March 14th from 6:30 - 8:00pm, I will be giving a free presentation at the perfumery titled "Nurture with Nature" as part of Dr. Nimira's Essential Connections monthly group. As women, connection is a vital thread that keeps us whole and feeling our best.

Essential Connections was designed as a once a month reboot for self-care. A time where you can create those essential connections with like-minded women and create essential connections in your brain as you learn how to revitalize your health without overwhelming your schedule.

I feel honored to be the speaker this month and look forward to sharing gathered wisdom from the plant world. Through the pathway of scent we will explore a rich and vibrant terrain which includes mythology, history, the aromatic properties of flowers and why they are associated with love, attraction and evolution.

Come and engage in my collection of rare botanical essences, learn how they are obtained and experience first hand the ability of flowers to elevate our moods and consciousness. Inhaling floral bouquets are an inspiring and uplifting way to instantly connect with nature, providing the body, mind and spirit with an anchor into the here and now. Elixir from Heaven, Jasmine Hydrosol

In the nineties while studying aromatherapy I was introduced to hydrosols, which back then were considered a "by product" of the distillation process. This was just before author Suzanne Catty released her pioneering book Hydrosols: The Next Aromatherapy.

"The word hydrosol, ‘hydro’ water and ‘sol’ solution means water solution and refers to the fact that a hydrosol is water that contains plant molecules and is produced alongside essential oil in the process of steam distillation, it is sometimes referred to as flower water. Hydrosols are much safer and easier to use than essential oils and have great potential for use both in physical ailments and when working on a subtle, emotional level. Mankind has distilled plants in order to extract their aromatic core for thousands of years and there is evidence that all the major civilizations used this form of extraction. When artisan distillers extract their own hydrosols the plant seems to open up on another level allowing us to come into contact with its healing vibration with ease and clarity, thus deepening our knowledge and intuitive information about it. There is a time for everything and although there are herbalists that have been distilling and using hydrosols regularly for years."

This jasmine sambac hydrosol has been artisan distilled within handblown glass alembics. The very special elixir has a delicate, ethereal quality which makes one feel as if you are attending a fairy feast with Queen Mab or with the Elves of Rivendell
